10th week of My OJT Journey

My Second Week as an Intern at the University Library

Day 1:

I have been working on encoding the books that will be discarded for the past two weeks at the university library throughout the month of April. I've learnt a lot this week about the value of book preservation and the difficulties involved.

This week, coping with books that were irreparably damaged was one of my challenges. The sad sight of so many books in bad shape served as a reminder of the value of protecting books and keeping them around for future generations. I gained knowledge on how to get rid of these books correctly and how to tell which books may still be given away or recycled.

Additionally, I got to collaborate with the library's preservation team. They demonstrated to me how to fix damaged but still usable books. It was intriguing to observe how they applied various methods to return books to their initial state. I also had the opportunity to try my hand at book repair myself, which was enjoyable and satisfying.

Day 2:

For the 2nd day of the 2nd week of April, I had the chance to help out with other jobs around the library in addition to encoding books. I assisted with stack organization, book shelving, and guiding customers to the right materials. Brimming with knowledge on how to take care of the books, as time passes by, it became clear to me on how taking care of the books should be a common knowledge.

Overall, I learned a lot during my second week in the university library. I developed new abilities, received knowledge about the value of book preservation, and had the chance to collaborate with a fantastic group of librarians and staff people. The remainder of my internship and all the new experiences it will offer are things I am eagerly anticipating.

Day 3:

On this day, I had to take a half day since we were busy complying with all of the requirements of our capstone. Before entering my workspace, I assured my supervisor that I took a half day and told them that I will be working harder to compensate for the hours that I was gone. My supervisor told me that I don't need to and also assured me that I'm following all of the guidelines so far to the best of my ability. I appreciated their kindness towards their interns, and I whispered to myself that I have to become like them.
