12th Week of My OJT Journey

My OJT Journey at the University Library: The Last Month and Week Day 1-5: (No More Work to do) My experience working as an intern at the university library has been rewarding and instructive. But my journey has unexpectedly come to an end. My boss informed me that there was no more work to be done during the last month of my OJT. Since I had been enjoying my work and was anxious to learn more, I was both shocked and dissatisfied. My supervisor clarified that the library was unable to retain me for the balance of my internship due to financial limitations. I remained upbeat and happy for the experience I had so far despite the setback. In my final month, I spent time learning about the duties and responsibilities of staff members and librarians in several departments. I also took some time to consider the lessons I had learnt and how I may use them in the future. I bid farewell to the librarians and staff members who had grown to be my mentors and friends during my final week. I convey...

11th Week of My OJT Journey

Wrapping Up My Internship at the University Library Day 1-5 For the whole week of April, I've been contemplating a lot especially in Day 1 because of how much I will miss the University Library and their kind staff. Becoming an intern in their establishment is such a blessing in disguise. That my internship in the university library is coming to an end is difficult to comprehend. I have gained a great deal of knowledge about library science, book preservation, and the inner workings of a library system during the past few weeks. I am pleased with my progress as I finish my work on the encoding of books that will be discarded. I have encoded hundreds of books in Day 2 to make sure their data is accurately recorded and that they can be discarded correctly. A highlight of my previous week was getting to work a reference desk shift while being a librarian's assistant in Day 3. It was interesting to observe how librarians help users locate materials, resolve research inquiries, and ...

10th week of My OJT Journey

My Second Week as an Intern at the University Library Day 1: I have been working on encoding the books that will be discarded for the past two weeks at the university library throughout the month of April. I've learnt a lot this week about the value of book preservation and the difficulties involved. This week, coping with books that were irreparably damaged was one of my challenges. The sad sight of so many books in bad shape served as a reminder of the value of protecting books and keeping them around for future generations. I gained knowledge on how to get rid of these books correctly and how to tell which books may still be given away or recycled. Additionally, I got to collaborate with the library's preservation team. They demonstrated to me how to fix damaged but still usable books. It was intriguing to observe how they applied various methods to return books to their initial state. I also had the opportunity to try my hand at book repair myself, which was enjoyable and...

9th Week of My OJT Journey

Day 1:  For the month of April, as an intern at the university library, I was given the task of encoding all the books that were going to be thrown out. I was confident because I already knew the best technique to a faster way of encoding. However, I soon realized that this was a great opportunity to learn more about the library system and gain valuable experience. The first thing I did was to get back to my previous excel that contained all the encoded books for the 1st month of my internship. I already learned how to use the library's software to input the necessary information about each book, such as the title, author, and publication date so it was a breeze for me. This time there is a change in how I encode, I had to determine the book's condition and whether it was suitable for donation or recycling. Day 2: For the 2nd day of the first week of April 2023, The work did not change, and the cycle of encoding continues, I was still surprised to find that there were many book...

Day 1: For today, I'm compiling all of the thesis books I had scanned and edited. It felt like a daunting task, as there were so many books to go through. I started off by organizing the books into categories and then began the process of scanning and editing each one. It was a long and tedious process, but I managed to scan and edit five books today. I feel like I made a good start and am looking forward to continuing tomorrow. Day 2: Today was my second day of compiling the thesis books. I managed to scan and edit seven books today. I felt like I was making good progress, but the task still felt daunting. I also started to do some basic formatting on the books as I went along. This was a bit more time-consuming, but it was worth it to ensure that the books looked good and had all of the information in the right place. By the end of the day, I felt like I was making good progress and was looking forward to completing the task tomorrow. Day 3: Today was my final day of compili...

(Didn't have the time to document myself as scanning and editing really eats all of my time. For that, I apologize.) Day 1: Today was an interesting day. I had to transfer from my usual job of encoding educational books to scanning and editing thesis books for two days. It felt a bit strange at first but I was determined to take the challenge and make the most out of it. Even if it's far from what I've expected, I am still going to miss the cold and the aroma of the books that surrounded our station. The first thing I noticed when I started was that the books, I was working with were quite different from the educational ones I was used to. I had to take some extra time to familiarize myself with the scanning and its application, but eventually I was able to get into the groove and started to understand what I was doing. For the first day of scanning, it was only a test run so I tried not to stress myself too much. Day 2: The process of scanning and editing these books was...

Day 1 In the morning, we presented the things we did on the 1st rotation. The presentation consists of the amount of books we encoded and put into the inventory. In the afternoon, my team and I went into the room to fix the ebook system we had created. We were all a bit nervous but determined to get it working right. We started by looking at the code and trying to identify where the problem areas were. After a few hours of debugging, we had identified a few key areas that needed to be fixed. We worked together to come up with a plan to address each issue and started making our changes. Day 2 Today was a lot of hard work. We started off by going through the code line by line and fixing any errors. We also spent a lot of time testing the system out to make sure everything was working correctly. We worked together to come up with solutions to any issues we came across. By the end of the day, we had made a lot of progress and were starting to feel more confident in our fixes.   D...
